Dear Karen, I’m so glad you pointed this out! Yes, it is just like with black, but in a different way.
There are different versions of black, but perhaps not as much variety as in the colour known loosely as #beige”. Black is black. But matte black is better for some, shiny black better for others, and deep blue-black is different from a slightly diluted black that is close to, but not quite grey.
For a lot of people (throwing a beady eye in the direction of True Spring, Light Spring, True Autumn, Soft Autumn and Light Summer) almost any use of black should be avoided, and not wearing black solves that problem. But for those, beige is often suggested as one of the alternatives for black. And here is where it gets interesting:
