I’m back in Norway but still enjoying some calm summer days. Enjoy this free post, written with one hand on the keyboard and a cup of green tea in the other, to give you a bit of light but useful reading, in summer relaxation mode.
It’s summertime and travel time.
I was absolutely thrilled to read this wonderful post by
about nests and what she brings along to recreate her nest when she travels.I am a “nester” too.
At home, I surround myself with my essentials, fluffing my little nest with items that, when they are within reach, make me feel so content.
And when I travel, although strictly hand luggage only is my travel policy, I always include a “portable nest” that I surround myself with wherever I go. These are the components of my nest:
Pencil case. With pencils, eraser, fountain pen, a foldable yardstick (you’d be surprised at how often that comes in handy).
Notebook. Nuuna dotted is my favourite. It weighs a lot, but I love it and can’t imagine being without it.
Small knitting project. My preferred in-flight entertainment, essential for calming nerves and help feel better about inevitable flight delays. I leave my large project at home, and bring something small to knit like a hat, or socks. I love knitting socks. Until now, I have never had knitting needles confiscated in the security check. They must have a policy that letting knitters bring their projects on board limits the number of panic attacks, and no high-jacker has ever whispered “Fly me to Dubai or I’ll knit you a sweater”.
Book. I always download a selection of reading pleasures to my Kindle. How else can I bring 13 books with me so I don’t have to decide beforehand which one I want to read? Sometimes I allow myself the luxury of a physical book, too.
Lipstick. I never leave home without it. Or more precisely, my preferred lip product is a tinted lip balm, which gives a fresh red hint on my lips and cheeks while keeping my lips from drying out.
Greetings from my summer office:
Sometimes my portable nest is just my mac and a cup of tea.
Are you a “nester”? If so, what fluffs your nest, and how much of it do you bring with you when traveling?
Yes! When traveling I have to take my bed pillow, a physical book, a book on Kindle, and a container of my favorite coffee already ground, just in case. And sometimes my favorite radio station or at least songs for streaming. Our dog if going by car :):):)
A nester for sure--an extravagant nester. (Some would call it high maintenance.) I bring along a journal and favorite pen(s), a knitting project, my Kindle, a favorite comfy jacket or cardigan, a pillow, loose-leaf tea and strainer, favorite instant coffee, candied ginger, and sometimes, a throw blanket. Somehow I get it all in a standard canvas tote bag, save the pillow and throw. This doesn't include 3 cats (not every trip, but some trips), and our kiddo's backpack and sleeping pillow. Hubs travels ultra light. I am not a light packer by any means :]
