I’m in.

Last year wasn’t a good year, I bought 15 new items. In defence, I had a colour consultation and a family funeral (necessitating black for a formal requiem mass). I bought bright colour for my new ‘Bright Winter’ designation…but on reflection, I think im happier with my earlier Light Summer. Ho-hum.

Anyway I digress. What I’m trying to say is that I ‘wasted’ 15 purchases on clothes that have been passed onwards (except the funeral clothes, they are handy to keep in Ireland, you never know when you might need them.) This year I intend to be far more discerning about my purchases.

I do need new clothes - the year prior to last year was a no-shop year, and so everything I have has been worn well and I’m in need of some updating. I think I will need a new pair of chino type trousers, some kind of sneaker, a loose linen top and a cardigan (I might see if I can thrift that.) Those are ‘needs’…’wants’ are: the perfect linen dress (always on my list, rarely found), a linen ‘chore’ jacket.

Wow! That’s great to have actually written a list to clarify the soup in my head. Thanks Jorunn.

Writing it out does clarify, doesn't it? And don't worry about the colour analysis Season conundrum. You can live very happily on the Bright Winter/Light Summer axis. Pick the colours you love!

A great strategy…thank you Jorunn 🌷

So interesting to hear about the 5 garment challenge! I’ve never heard of it. It sounds like such a balanced way to be thoughtful about new clothing purchases. I started getting back into thrifting clothing last year and hope to continue on this path. Would love to keep reading about your reflections on the challenge as the year goes along!

Hello, Kindred Spirit! I'm so glad 5 Garments challenge resonated with you! I think it is a comfortably simplified way of thinking about how I can make an impact in a small way, starting with my own closet.

It’s a joy to meet kindred spirits from across the world! Yes, it’s a good feeling to make whatever small impacts we can - including with our closets!

I’m thrifty and love to keep things simple.

I ‘m rather wabisabi. I don’t really like shopping for new things in new environments so I love this. The mix and match potential is artful and honorable for me. I shop at a resale store near me.

This challenge is a good fit for me, my soul. I’ve been doing this since you first brought it to readers’ attention years ago! Enjoy the five dress challenge!

The fact that you can wear a shift dress makes me all kinds of jealous. I look like a turnip.

Ah, yes. I can wear a shift dress if it is large enough nd has a sufficient A-line shape, not the tight straight type of shift dress.

That dress is cute and a great color range, I just may look at that for myself I could see that as wear everyday in June event! and in the interest of rhythm and rhyme I just may need to make it 6 in 26.. :)

Oh, wonderful. Which colour speaks to your heart? I must admit I have difficulty choosing for myself, so mny lovely to choose from.

I think so many of them for a light spring, right!? Even the style is light springish. I would avoid the dusty colors or dark dark colors but those others wow!
